it’s been super hot here lately, as i’m sure it has been for everyone else (except for my friends from down under at any rate). because of this, one of my cats has taken to sleeping in the bathroom sink to stay cool. it’s no big deal usually except for the extra cat hair stuck to the basin when i get home from work. but these last few days i have found something a little more… invasive than usual. i go to brush my teeth and find a GIANT tuft of cat hair stuck to my toothbrush!
at least twice now i have *almost* put that in my mouth before noticing that those bristles look a little out of place, and …oddly colored too… it’s at this point that i realize what it is. if only i could put something on or near the toothbrush so my cat wouldn’t rub up against it, but anything out there is probably much worse to put into my body than some cat hair. and i’m not entirely convinced that would stop her anyway…
oh well, that’s the dangers we all face when we bring animals into our homes
the new job is going great so far for anyone interested to know. for the first 90 days i am considered a contract employee so i am not getting any taxes taken out of my pay. which means an extra few hundred per paycheck for the next couple months!
once i finish catching up on my bills i may even get to start paying them down for a change. it also means that i can finally go to see some live music again without worrying about whether or not it will leave me enough money to eat. and speaking of music….
i went to see a band that i had met before i saw them play live. i was a little ambivalent about the recordings that i heard but thought they might have a good live show because they seem like pretty animated people. well, i finally got to see them live and i have to say that i am very disappointed in the performance. maybe they were having a bad night but i got the distinct impression that music is not the career they should be in. well, the guitarist was very good but the singer was barely adequate. she had no range and the lyrics were all the same for the most part, with different rhythms behind them. i’m not going to name this band here but i haven’t been this let down by a show in a long long time.
but i *did* get to see some great music not too long ago for a friend’s going away party. this was a band she was friends with and wanted to see one last time before she moved away and i’m glad i went because i would have never found this band on my own. they are called the elevaters and they are a blend of hip hop, funk and soul and they were the most amazing band i have seen in months! they had a great vibe and were just an all around fun band to see. i’m not sure i can do justice to the type of show they put on, but i will say that it was great to see so many people dancing around to the music. and such a diverse crowd too! this is the kind of event that makes me glad to live in a city which has the music industry centered here. where else can you find such a great range of acts without having to go too far away?
all work and no play makes moondog something something….
i finally got away from the job that has been sucking the life out of me for the last 10 months. found something new which is *much* closer to home than before, and for a lot more pay too!
i’m not going to get into all the gory details but suffice to say that i feel like i was lied to for the last few months. that and the fact that i literally had nothing to do (seems to be a common theme with me and jobs
)
but that’s all behind me now, and i am totally focussed on the future. i have a few projects in the works that will hopefully pan out to the best possible scenario, but that’s for another day. i am *definitely* not ready to say anything about that just yet, or else someone may steal my ideas and make money off of them when it should be *me* making that money
anyway, this may also mean a return to posting for me since i will have many more positive things to experience. (i mean, the new job said they have POKER NIGHT! how many jobs have a poker night??) so in the interest of staying positive, i hope that things continue to go up from here. once i get things rolling i will be much better inclined to discuss what i’m doing in my “spare” time, but for now great things are in the works…
